Employee of the Month

Kathy McNair is a RN On-Call/CaseManager for hospice. Kathy really defined “Because Life Matters” in the month of May. Her full-time job is on-call nurse during the week for all of our patients. Due to several nurses being out due to illness in May Kathy graciously agreed to also work during the daytime hours and make patient visits. Kathy is a very compassionate and caring nurse to all the patients she sees. Thank you Kathy.

Question of the Month

Can My Family Afford Hospice?

You can't afford not to.

Most insurance companies, including Medicare and Medicaid, will pay for Hospice benefits. Generally there is very little that comes out of your pocket for Hospice care. Almost always coverage includes such things as beds, commodes, oxygen and even your medications related to your illness or hospice comfort care.

Please call and ask how you can be afforded the opportunity to receive hospice care from Catholic Community Hospice.

How to Make a Referral

To refer a patient to any of Catholic Community Hospice’s programs, please call the intake department at
913-621-5090.

The discussion about hospice services is not easy for most people, in fact it is downright scary. Here are some considerations that may be helpful to some families as you make a decision on whether to seek out hospice services or not.:

  • Studies show that patients admitted to hospice actually lived longer than similar patients who didn’t receive hospice care.
  • Hospice care can actually help to stabilize a patient and some improve so markedly they are discharged (graduate) from hospice.
  • Hospice’s highest priority is your comfort and quality of life.

A team member from Catholic Community Hospice can visit the patient and family at home, a nursing home, hospital or anywhere that is fitting to present information and give an assessment to see how our programs might be of assistance. There is no charge or obligation for this initial informational visit.
